Technically all vehicles went to a throttle position sensor in the late
1980s, the early years of fuel injection/throttle body injection. The
TPS sensor took the place of throttle cables and sends a signal to the
computer that is working in conjunction with many other components.
Although your vehicle may have a carburetor it is still controlled by
computer components.
